De Belgische zanger Tamino, onder andere bekend van zijn hit Habibi, brengt op 21 maart zijn derde album Every Dawn’s A Mountain uit. Het album, dat thema’s als verlies, verdringing en het loslaten van het verleden verkent, bevat een opvallend nummer: Sanctuary. Dit lied is het enige op de plaat dat voortkwam uit een samenwerking, namelijk met de Amerikaanse singer-songwriter Mitski.

Haar stem voegt een unieke dimensie toe aan een verder zeer persoonlijk album. Sanctuary heeft een bijzondere plek op de plaat en roept herinneringen op aan Tamino’s tijd als student in Amsterdam, een periode die hem als artiest mede heeft gevormd. Tamino vertelt hier over:

“On this album, ‘Sanctuary’ is the only track fully birthed from a new working dynamic, with my friend Alessandro Buccellati (SZA, Arlo Parks). It’s also the final addition to the record. These things, combined with the fact that the song features a second voice on what is otherwise a very personal record, make the track a bit of an outlier. Still, it feels like an essential track on this album. I won’t analyze it here, but suffice it to say that I can’t imagine this record without it. Apart from that, it’s also a pinch me moment every time I hear Mitski’s voice soaring over ‘Sanctuary,’ especially when I think back to my time in Amsterdam where it soared over many days.”
