Het zijn drukke tijden voor de Schotse zanger-songwriter Fish. Met zijn welverdiende pensioen in het vooruitzicht (Fish wordt volgend jaar april 67) neemt hij dit najaar waardig afscheid van zijn loyale fans middels de afscheidstournee ‘Road To The Isles 2024-2025’, die op 2 oktober in Luxemburg start en op 10 maart in Glasgow (UK) eindigt. Fish geeft 11 shows in de Benelux die bijna allemaal zijn uitverkocht (zie de volledige lijst verder onderaan).
De ‘Road to the Isles’-tour is geïnspireerd op het feit dat Fish en zijn vrouw Simone zich later dit jaar zullen terugtrekken in een boerderij op een ruig eiland in de Outer Hebrides ten noordwesten van Schotland. Fish heeft zijn huidige woning in Haddington, East Lothian (waar hij woonde sinds hij Marillion in 1988 verliet) inmiddels verkocht.
Maar er is méér. Tussen zijn verhuizing activiteiten door zag Fish kans om een lang gekoesterde wens in vervulling te brengen: zijn eerste twee solo-albums ‘Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors’ uit 1990 en ‘Internal Exile’ uit 1991 grondig te remixen en in drie fantastische formats opnieuw uit te brengen op 22 juli a.s. Ze zijn vanaf morgenvroeg beschikbaar als pre-order op fishmusic.eu.
Om de heruitgave van deze twee klassiekers te vieren heeft Fish vanochtend zijn geliefde coverversie van Thunderclap Newman’s klassieke hit ‘Something In The Air’ uit 1969 als single uitgebracht in een gloednieuw geremixte versie. De originele versie stond op het ‘Internal Exile’-album en werd in de zomer van 1991 als single uitgebracht door Polydor Records. Het was zijn laatste release ooit op een groot label voordat hij een volledige independent artist werd.
Fish: “I thought that with the General Election coming at us it is rather appropriate. The song was a number 1 hit for Thunderclap Newman back in July 1969 and part of the post flower power rebellion movement. A bit tongue in cheek perhaps but it’s a very resonant lyric and this version is pretty groovy indeed and a perfect anthem for a summer of change!”

Fish: “There’s a sense of completion in re-releasing the first two albums ‘Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors’ and ‘Internal Exile’ from my solo career as I approach the Farewell Tour and my retirement from the music industry. They were seminal albums in their day and the recent remixes by Calum Malcom have given them a new life and energy and a completely different dynamic. Closing down the record company with these releases feels like a respectful and fitting exit and a dramatic closing of a door in my life.”
“They are now available for pre-order and will be released on July 22nd in three different formats. They have been in the pipeline for a very long time but got caught up in the triple vinyl box set debacle last year and were continually delayed by events, which also forced back the release of the ’13th Star’ remixed issue. They were always intended to be the last releases on the Chocolate Frog Record Company, to bring a circle to a close and to be the final remasters in the collection that hopefully will be seen as a legacy catalogue.”
“When we started working on them over a year ago, we knew they would become major projects, and I always wanted the deluxe versions to be incredibly special. I cannot believe just how much work it has taken the team to bring this all together, and I have to admit there were a couple of times I just wanted to walk away as the costs escalated and were making no sense. The deluxe versions are incredibly special, and I am proud to have these as the final releases from my label, which is closing its doors next April (2025).”
