Therapy?’s nieuwe single ‘Poundland Of Hope And Glory’ wijst op het gevaar van het huidige tijdperk van desinformatie. De sociaal-politiek satirische songtekst van dit slechts 2.25 minuut durende nummer is een collectie van sombere beelden die dienen als een aangrijpende herinnering aan de valkuilen die degenen te wachten staan die blindelings verhalen accepteren die hen worden aangereikt.
Frontman-gitarist Andy Cairns: “This track started out as a hard take on how people lose themselves in narratives to the point that the myth takes on greater importance than the fact. Just like the old adage about the liar repeating the lie so much that they eventually believe it themselves, the culture around us is bursting with fairy stories we tell ourselves.”
“Metaphor and hagiography surround us, but in a post-truth world, the Walter Mitty character is no longer a harmless fantasist but an incendiary zealot using misinformation and chaos to achieve their goals. It’s easy to smirk at middle class parents whose Harry Potter loving kids are sent to private school because of the Hogwarts style uniforms, and easy to eye roll at adults who actually play Quidditch, a fictional sport from a novel written for children, but it’s not so easy to stomach the less savoury reinvention of colonialism as a lost paradise to which we should return.”

Veerkracht en overleving zijn essentiële sleutelwoorden voor Therapy?. Gedurende hun ruim dertigjarige carrière veranderde het muzikale, culturele en sociale landschap voortdurend. Maar de band bleef relevant, door de nadruk op de muziek te leggen, en door een krachtige en duurzame relatie met zijn wereldwijde fans. Eigenwijs, koppig, en niet zelden tegen heersende trends en hypes in bepaalde het trio steevast zijn eigen koers, waardoor zijn populariteit juist alleen maar toenam. Therapy?’s zestiende album ‘Hard Cold Fire’ is compact en toegankelijk, een destillatie van alles wat de band heeft gemaakt tot wat ze zijn: stoïcijns maar met een hernieuwde focus op catharsis en genezing. Pure muzikale therapie dus eigenlijk.
Voor studioalbum ‘Hard Cold Fire’ ging Therapy? opnieuw in zee met de gevierde producer Chris Sheldon (Feeder, Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters), waarmee ze al samenwerken sinds hun doorbraakalbum ‘Troublegum’ uit 1994. Eind 2021 vertrok de band naar de pas geopende Marshall Studios in Milton Keynes, waar ze als bezetenen werkten aan het nieuwe studio-album.
