On 24th August (not unexpectedly Jean-Michel Jarre’s birthday) NiMO released the album “Jarre Acoustique [music by Jean-Michel Jarre performed on piano]”. The album contains 11 acoustic piano interpretations of Jean-Michel Jarre’s music, featuring Jarre’s long time collaborator Patrick Rondat as special guest on “Chronologie part 3”.
NiMO is the moniker of Jeroen van der Wiel, a self-taught keyboard-player / composer. Over the years Jeroen has worked with musicians like John Hayes, Ian Parry, Kane and many others… Furthermore Jeroen has been a long-time member of the Dutch instrumental progressive rock band Odyssice with which he released 3 albums. After the demise of Odyssice he released his first solo project “Thirteen”.
After working in rock music for over 25 years Jeroen headed into a new musical direction, heavily influenced by the music of Jean-Michel Jarre, of which he’d been a huge fan for years! He started composing and recording experimental electronic music as NiMO. (‘nimo’ is taken from the name Geronimo: Jeroen is the ‘geron’ part and ‘nimo’ the left over part of the name.)
During the process of composing electronic music the idea surfaced to interpret the music of Jean-Michel Jarre acoustically on piano. Between the summer of 2022 and autumn 2023 NiMO arranged, performed, recorded and mixed the piano adaptations of 11 original Jean-Michel Jarre tracks. He was introduced to long-time Jarre collaborator Patrick Rondat by Ian Parry, who agreed to record acoustic guitar on “Chronologie, part 3”.
