After announcing the details for their forthcoming EP ‘White Magnolias’ with the compelling single “Loneliness”, Bear’s Den return once again to continue the support for their upcoming collection with the euphoric new offering “Honest Mistake”.
Cultivating more of that rich and illuminating direction the duo have been developing in recent years, “Honest Mistake” makes for another wonderfully warm and embracing listen. Building upon the anthemic foundations of the previous outing “Loneliness”, this new single marks another riveting addition to their eagerly-awaited new EP.
Giving insight into the track, Andrew Davie explains, “Honest Mistake is a song that started off as an intimate piano ballad. We were both drawn to the darkness it intrinsically possesses and felt there was more weight to the words to be explored. When we recorded the song for real at Middle Farm Studios with Ian (Grimble), there was a really powerful energy from the whole band. It just felt really raw and untethered in some way and pushed us into some uncharted territory as a band.”
Adding about the new EP, he says, “White Magnolias really is a part 2 to First Loves. Almost like an older version of the same person speaking in the first EP. On a songwriting level, I feel these are some of the most intimate songs I’ve ever written and though at times there is a bitterness there, I think overall it’s still a very hopeful and honest record.”
Their previous EP ‘First Loves’ and ‘White Magnolias’ will be released together on yellow vinyl upon release, as well as a special yellow and blue splatter colour disc version, available exclusively from bearsdenmusic.co.uk, which will include a numbered and signed alternative-art outer sleeve, made and shipped limited to order. To coincide with the release of ‘White Magnolias’, Bear’s Den also announced a pair of live residencies in New York and London, both of which sold out in a day. ‘White Magnolias’ and ‘First Loves’ follow the duo’s fourth studio album ‘Blue Hours’, which was released in May 2022. The album went on to peak at number 6 in the UK Album Charts, making it their second top ten record and features the track “All That You Are” which appeared in the most recent episode of Ted Lasso airing earlier this year.
