De veelgeprezen Amerikaanse singer-songwriter en producer Jonathan Wilson heeft zijn nieuwe album Eat The Worm aangekondigd. De plaat komt op 8 september uit via BMG en is via deze pre-order link te bestellen.

Een tipje van de sluier werd al opgelicht met de single Marzipan die in maart al uit kwam. Tegelijk met de albumaankondiging is de tweede track Charlie Parker verschenen. Dit zes minuten durende nummer is hier op Spotify te beluisteren en de bijbehorende video is hier op YouTube te bekijken.

Over Charlie Parker zegt Wilson:
“‘Charlie Parker’ is one of my favorite songs on Eat the Worm. It’s a fantastical and fictitious flight of fancy and fantasy, which draws from experiences in Boston in the 1980s, North Carolina in the early 1990s and an early 2000s-era European jazz festival. It also touches on the ups and downs of my life over the past decade as a touring musician, and more. It’s filled with strings, horns, fuzzy guitars, tubular bells, and a few bebop elements as well, hence the name. In a way, ‘Charlie Parker’ encompasses what the new record is all about: adventure, fidelity and fun. We’ve created another amazingly trippy AI video to accompany it, and I think it captures the mood of the tune perfectly.”

Het album Eat The Worm is geproduceerd door Wilson zelf (die overigens ook albums heeft geproduceerd van o.a. Father John Misty, Margo Price, Billy Strings, Conor Oberst, Roy Harper, Dawes and Angel Olsen), en hij heeft ook de meeste instrumenten, waaronder gitaar, piano, drums en keyboards, voor z’n rekening genomen. Jake Blanton (The Killers) verzorgde de bas en de blazerssectie bestaat uit gerenommeerde muzikanten zoals C.J. Camerieri (Bon Iver), Rita Andrade (Kanye West), Wynton Grant (Miley Cyrus, Hans Zimmer) en Paul Cartwright (Lana Del Rey, Mary J. Blige).
