Noorse indie folk artiest Louien brengt op 16 februari 2024 haar nieuwe studioalbum Every Dream I Ever Had uit via Jansen Records. Het album werd samen met producer Øyvind Røsrud Gundersen opgenomen in Brageveien Studio in Noordwegen en Silence Studio in Zweden. De nieuwe single Quite Like This is nu uit.
Waar eerdere referenties Joni Mitchell en Ane Brun waren, heeft Live Miranda Solberg – de echte naam van Louien – deze keer voor inspiratie gezocht bij Lizzy McAlpine, Phoebe Bridgers en Big Thief. Daarmee is de toon gezet voor het album, want op Every Dream I Ever Had horen we een artiest die eindelijk haar plek heeft gevonden. Producer en gitarist Øyvind Røsrud Gundersen is vanaf dag één een belangrijk onderdeel van Louien’s geluid, maar op dit nieuwe album wilde ze haar band er meer bij betrekken. Zo kregen bassist Ole Kirkeng (Courtney Marie Andrews) en drummer Henrik Lødøen ook de ruimte. “I felt very driven and inspired in the making of this album, both when writing the songs and while working on them with the band. I wrote most of the songs alone, as always, but we worked very closely together as a band building and creating the soundscape. We did a lot of the recording live in the studio, which just made the process so much more fun and free. The songs have more width to them than before, they sound bigger and more confident. The songs are about my own life as always. I’m deep into self reflection, almost to the point of obsessive sometimes. How, why and when did I become who I am? I spend so much time entrapped in my own head it’s a huge relief to see myself from the outside and write a song about it every now and then. And as I’m ever evolving and changing it seems like there are endless themes to dive into and explore.“ – aldus Louien
Over de nieuwe single Quite Like This zegt Louien het volgende: “I was being very adamant about not needing anyone and then this special someone changed my mind just by showing up. It’s kind of shocking when you’re convinced love wasn’t meant for you and then you’re proven wrong. I have to smile thinking about it now, how lost I thought I was in my twenties. Na een succesvolle voorgeschiedenis bij het kwartet Silver Lining (waar ze komende week mee in Nederland speelt) in haar thuisland begon Louien voorzichtig voor eigen rekening te musiceren. Een reeks ingrijpende gebeurtenissen in haar leven, het verlies van haar vader (een zanger en acteur) die haar inspireerde, resulteerde in het debuutalbum None Of My Words uit 2019. Onlangs werd Louien genomineerd voor een Spellemann Award (Noorse Grammy) voor de haar EP Figure Me Out uit 2022.
