“Heads” is Chantal Acda’s nieuwe single!
Chantal Acda’s new single is a song about the endlessly searching for meaning, yet always missing the answer, caught in a loop of longing and loss; ‘It’s a feeling of helplessness, where I see humanity moving forward as one great collective. Almost like a machine, searching for answers, speaking with conviction, yet left with countless questions’.
Chantal presents herself now as the Chantal Acda Band, a true trustful collaborative of five experienced musicians. The music hints to ‘90s Throwing Muses, The Walkabouts and Radiohead, with even some ’80s wave Anne Clark-vibes, mixing minimal, melancholic and intimate alternative folk, lush ambient and indie pop.

Her new album “The Whale” will be released on 19-9-2025!
2024 marks a shift in Chantal Acda’s approach to writing music. She decided to create a new album in collaboration with the band she has been touring with for over ten years as the Chantal Acda Band, musicians who know and trust each other through and through (Alan Gevaert, Eric Thielemans, Gaetan Vandewoude and Niels van Heertum). Where she used to be the sole writer, she now wanted the music to reflect the songwriting sensibilities and instincts of every member; a true collaborative effort.
After having performed in several duo formations, Belgo-Dutch singer-songwriter Chantal Acda embarked on a solo career in 2013, seeking to explore new musical landscapes and to express her artistic vision more freely. The time was right for it, after having earned her stripes in bands like Isbells, True Bypass and Marble Sounds. The result was her first solo album “Let Your Hands Be My Guide” (2013), produced by German pianist Nils Frahm and featuring collaborations with Peter Broderick (Efterklang) and Gyda Valtysdottir (Mum), among others.
She followed up her critically acclaimed solo debut with “The Sparkle in Our Flaws” (2015), “Bounce Back” (2017) and “Saturday Moon” (2020 – Glitterhouse), in which she further explored deeply emotional themes and she continued to grow as an artist, with more intricate arrangements and bolder experimentation. In the past decade, Chantal Acda carved out her own space in the contemporary musical landscape with relatable, genuine and moving songs, led by her characteristically fragile and beautiful voice.
With her latest release, “Silently Held” (2024 – Challenge), she stepped out of that space. As Chantal Acda & The Atlantic Drifters, the singer who became known for blending indie folk, ambient and chamber pop, worked with artists renowned in the world of jazz, such as Bill Frisell, Thomas Morgan and Colin Stetson.
Returning now to the Chantal Acda Band, the singer explores a slightly rougher, more rock-orientated and poppier sound than before, but with the same emotion, creativity and introspection we know and love from her. Her signature introspection and vulnerability remains at the heart of her music.
The new album, dubbed ”The Whale“, was produced by Chris Eckman (of The Walkabouts). She also remains member of the bands Distance, Light & Sky and Isbells.
