De Noorse pop-legende a-ha brengt vandaag haar langverwachte nieuwe studio-album ‘True North’ wereldwijd uit via Sony Music op cd, vinyl en digitaal. Het is de opvolger van het vorige studio-album ‘Cast In Steel‘ uit 2015 en dus a-ha’s eerste studio-album in zeven jaar tijd. Na eerder de twee prachtige singles ‘I’m In’ en ‘You Have What It Takes’ te hebben gereleased, volgt vandaag de single ‘As If’ (zie video onderaan het bericht). ‘True North’ is o.a. via deze link verkrijgbaar.
Vorige maand is de gelijknamige bijzondere film al in premiere gegaan (8.3/10 rating op IMDB), die in adembenemende beelden het opnameproces van ‘True North’ in Bodø toont, de prachtig gelegen hoofdstad van de Noorse provincie Nordland boven de poolcirkel. Bodø is in 2024 de Culturele Hoofdstad van Europa (zie trailer hieronder).

Het Noorse trio a-ha was in de jaren 80 immens populair en voerde wereldwijd de hitlijsten aan met monsterhits als ‘Take On Me’ (nummer 1-hit in Nederland en inmiddels bijna 1,5 miljard views!), ‘The Sun Always Shines On TV’, ‘Train Of Thought’, en ‘Hunting High And Low’. Zanger Morten Harket, toetsenist Magne Furuholmen en gitarist Pål Waaktaar-Savoy verkochten samen meer dan 55 miljoen albums.
A-ha mag klinkende namen als Adam Clayton van U2, Morrissey, Robbie Williams, Pet Shop Boys en Kanye West tot hun fans rekenen, net als Coldplay-frontman Chris Martin. Voor hem was a-ha een vroege inspiratie en zijn meest favoriete band aller tijden. Tijdens de ‘Viva La Vida’-tournee van 2008 coverde Coldplay ‘Hunting High And Low’, in Oslo bijgestaan door Magne zelf, die door Chris werd ingeleid als de “beste keyboardspeler ter wereld”.
Het trio scoorde bovendien wereldwijd een hit met de James Bond-titelsong ‘The Living Daylights’ (1987), maar ook met ‘Cry Wolf’, ‘I’ve Been Losing You’ en het nummer ‘Analogue’ uit 2005, in samenwerking met Max Martin.
En dan was er natuurlijk nog die spraakmakende docu a-ha The Movie die eerder dit jaar uitkwam en door internationale media unaniem bejubeld werd.
